Predoctoral Practicum and APPIC Internships at Washburn Center for Children

Predoctoral Practicum and APPIC Internships

Predoctoral psychology students looking for their third-year therapy practicum or advanced practicum experience may apply for a position in Washburn's Outpatient department. Students typically gain experience with diagnostic assessment, individual and family therapy, and parent counseling within this program. There are also opportunities for supervised psychological evaluations if the student is interested. Applications for practicum positions are reviewed in early March. Please include a cover letter, resume, list of three references and a clinical writing sample with your application. Practicum placements run from the beginning of August through at least the end of May.

Predoctoral psychology students can also apply for the APPIC-approved Predoctoral Psychology Internship Program in Washburn's Outpatient department. This internship provides interns with a wealth of diverse clinical experiences and training opportunities, including urban and suburban outpatient treatment, collaborative opportunities with schools, psychological assessment, and supervision of practicum students. Training focuses on assessment and intervention of children, adolescents, and families.

Interns consult and collaborate with a range of team members and community providers, including psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, case managers, school staff, and county workers.

Clinical supervision is provided by the training director and staff psychologists. Collaboration with other professionals at the agency is encouraged, based on the wealth of clinical experience and expertise within each program. Agency-wide training and in-services as well as didactic training seminars for psychology students are a part of the internship program. The predoctoral internship program runs from approximately September 1st to August 31st.

Training opportunities with Washburn's Outpatient Program are available at the Minneapolis, Minnetonka, and Brooklyn Park sites.
