Preschool and Early Childhood Services
Washburn’s early childhood services for infants, toddlers and preschoolers are provided in child cares, preschool centers, and in homes.
Outreach Consultation for Parents, Children Care Centers and Kindergartens
Some toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners struggle with the rules and structure of a childcare classroom. Emotional, behavioral, or developmental questions and concerns can be challenging and stressful for teachers and parents. The Early Childhood Outreach program provides free training and consultation to childcare providers and parents throughout Hennepin County. The services help the child remain in the day care when possible, or identify a more appropriate setting if necessary. Staff also works with providers and parents so they can better respond to each child's individual needs.
Family Focused Support for Young Children
The Family Focused Program serves families with children age birth through five in the Minneapolis area who are at risk for child abuse and/or neglect due to high levels of family stress. Intensive services – including groups for parents and children, in-home parenting support and help accessing additional resources – are designed to support the healthy development of the child. Staff helps families decrease the risk factors for child abuse and neglect by helping parents provide a safer, more nurturing environment. This program is free to qualifying families in Hennepin County.
