Preschool and Early Childhood Services
Washburn’s early childhood services for infants, toddlers and preschoolers are provided in child cares, preschool centers, and in homes.
Outreach Consultation for Parents, Children Care Centers and Kindergartens
Some toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners struggle with the rules and structure of a childcare classroom. Emotional, behavioral, or developmental questions and concerns can be challenging and stressful for teachers and parents. The Early Childhood Outreach program provides free training and consultation to childcare providers and parents throughout Hennepin County. The services help the child remain in the day care when possible, or identify a more appropriate setting if necessary. Staff also works with providers and parents so they can better respond to each child's individual needs.

Family Focused Support for Young Children
The Family Focused Program serves children age birth through five and helps reduce a child’s social, emotional and behavioral stresses while increasing positive relationships between caregivers and their children. Intensive services – including groups for parents, in-home family therapy, parenting support and a therapeutic preschool classroom – are designed to support the healthy development of children and prepare them for success in kindergarten. Washburn’s Family Focused program was awarded accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals – in 2011. The program is free to qualifying families in Hennepin County.
